was found in a follow up exam for her concussion. right now she is honored by doctors at new york presbyterian hospital. the concussion prevented her from testifying on the benghazi terror attack. many shy must testify before senator john kerry will succeed her. >> 9 people killed two others injured when a bus slid off a highway and crashed into a ravine. it happened in goern. the bus heading from las vegas to canada driving through the money tan pass known for dangerous conditions. the driver lost control crashed through a guardrail and plummeted 200 feet down the slope. several people were thrown from the bus. crews had to use ropes to rescue people from the rev convenient. the crash is being investigated. a woman accused of pushing a man to his death in front of a subway train will undergo a psychiatric investigation.

here in new york city we have the famous ball drop in times square. that's the d birth actually. we all know what the ball in times square looks like and it passed the test run yesterday with flying colors and is ready for the spotlight tonight. for more on the new year's eve prep let's go to maria molina who is live with an exclusive look at the waterford crystal ball. >> hi, good morning, good to see you guys. we are on top of one times square we are with the new ear's eve times square ball. it is behind me much larger in person than i thought it would be t be. it is 12 feat in diameter and weighs the weight of an adult sized elephant. a large ball. also does have this year engraved in some of the crystals dick clark's name who unfortunately died this year at

the age of 82 years old. it is very cold if you are on top of the building. didn't feel so bad on the floor level. want to show you the high temperatures will be much worse across portions of the upper midwest. we are going to be seeing high temperatures only into the single dig gets. it will feel like below zero. keep that in mind you really do need to bundle up. temperatures will be near what is typical this time of year. across florida temperatures very warm making it into the 70's. we are going to be tracking a brand new storm system that will be bringing in areas of rainfall across eastern portions of the state of texas up through western portions of tennessee as we head through the midnight hour. you will need the umbrellas maybe you can carry one of the umbrellas that is clear so you can try to see any celebrations out there. northern side of the storm system temperatures will be cold enough for snow we could be seeing some of the white stuff across texas panhandle into

oklahoma as far west or east as the state of kentucky. looking at snow showers flying around and even possibly accumulating snow. no major winter storm tonight. some of the white stuff across portions of the plains. the west quiet in terms of precipitation it will be nice and dry in california and through portions of the midwest. last year was mild we saw temperatures make it through the 50s in the afternoon at night into the 40s. not too bad. this year a little cooler temperatures at about 30 degrees for the ball drop coming at midnight tonight. westerly going to need to bundle up you guys and it is very cold out here. back to you guys in the studio. >> looks like fun definitely. >> thank you maria. >> yes, very fun. it is time to brew on this. here's what we would like you to brew on today. more than half of americans say they will make a new year's resolution to kickoff when the ball drops. >> time magazine listed the top

clot as a result of a fall she took in december. she hasn't been seen or heard from since she came down with a stomach virus earlier this month. result of this stomach virus we are told she fainted when she fainted this concussion occurred. she was having a routine follow up checkup with her doctor yesterday. this blood clot was discovered and she was brought down here to new york city. we are told from medical professionals that blood clots can be common if they are found in the leg. more severe when they come in the brain or lungs. we are told she is going to be looked at by a doctor over the next 48-hours. we are told that different information will be coming out as her condition improves. she is the most traveled

secretary of state in u.s. history but her recent illnesses grounded her some. she had to cancel an overseas trip and expect to do appear before congress after the benghazi attacks this week. that is not going to happen because of her recent diagnosis with this blood clot. we will see if any more information becomes available. it has been sparse because of not only her position in state government but hippa rules in begin rale. that's the latest in washington heights. i will send it back to you guys in the studio. >> appreciate it, thank you. tax hikes aren't the only things at stake in the fiscal cliff negotiations. national security is also on the line with massive cuts at the defense department as part of the deal. leon pineda is prepping to send layo

layoffs. >> if there is a deal done that doesn't set aside thense cuts because we already cut 489 billion out of the defense department i am disappointed as the president as commander-in-chief and disappointed with the republican party for letting this happen. >> sequestration was the penalty they imposed on itself last year when they failed to find $1.2 trillion of cuts they live with. now mhalf are directed at the pentagon but the dramatic across the board cuts can be offset by raising taxes on the rich. >> if we have raised revenue by the wealthy paying more that is sufficient to turn off the sectsec quest tore the automatic cuts. >> senator graham told me he thinks it is possible to find 600 billion cuts elsewhere to

follow. joining us is personal finance expert vera givens. >> good morning patty ann. you say number one is to pay down the credit card debt. do that first. >> do that first. this is high interest debt bad debt. 50 percent of us are counting a balance. make this an actual year to pay down this debt. you can chip away at the highest debt work your way down to the lowest interest rate debt or do a balance transfer. there are attractive offers out there. you can pay it off in that window your discipline something to consider. >> only if you do that. otherwise you are getting yourself into worse trouble. jack up the rates afterward. >> boost your credit score. >> you need a rate of 7 or hire. credits loosened some if you go over the cliff credit is going to tighten some. you do this by paying your bills on time paying down your debt and not using some of your available credit.

>> some of the rules for changing your credit score are a little tricky. but all right. refinance. >> rates are still low you want to take advantage of this. consolidate your student loans you can site simple tuition and run the numbers to see how much you would save now verses the repayment plan you are currently on. we have 14 credit worthy americans. good time to take action on that. it is time consuming. >> it is amazing what you can save pocket that money put it back in the pocket. get serious about retirements. >> 42 percent of americans have crunched numbers the rest of us haven't. 60 percent of us have -- the numbers are astounding. less than 25,000 saved excludeing the value of their home. 30 percent have less than a thousand saved. you have to crunch the numbers choose to save.org would be the place for that.

senate homeland security committee strongly criticizing the state for failing to respond to community risks for the attack. they fault the pentagon and the white house. it criticizes the obama administration for being inconsistent on what led to the attack blaming the video not terrorists. joe lieberman the chairman of the committee says the facts so quote a shocking ir responsibility to protect american diplomatic personnel in benghazi. an american family is pleading for help in finding their sick pregnant daughter and their husband missing in afghanistan. katelyn coleman is due in january. she has a liver condition that requires medical care. they last heard from the compup in october wefrom an internet ce in an unsafe area. it is not clear why they are in afghanistan. the family thinks they were trying to help people through an
